BA GUA ZHANG Also referred to as: Ba Gua Chang, Ba Gwa Chang, Pa Qua Chang Pa Kua Chang This art is the newest of the Chinese classical martial arts. It is extremely effective in combat and has very beneficial health development aspects. This art is relatively unknown but has earned its reputation in the field, resulting in it being taught to Chinese police and intense tacts areas. Ba Gua Zhang is placed with Tai Chi and Hsing I as an internal martial approach. It is respected as THE BODY GUARD system. PHILOSOPHICAL BASIS Bagua Zhang has been referred to as the "daughter of tai chi" or the "brother of Hsing I ." It is the purpose of this text to suggest that Ba gua Zhang needs to be considered for its holistic value as a guide to a complete wholesome means of living, and to open possibilities for the follower of this system in ways here to not documented in any real depth. While other martial arts systems consider spherical and linear movement, they ignore or give little attention to the secrets of spiral movement. One could say that spherical movement is spiral movement since there is undeniably a curvature in the application. However, the area that makes the spiral different and enticing is the use of motion in more than one direction simultaneously. What is so important about the spiral is how it leads to systems of change which can be a map to understanding many facets of our universe, and if we understand the system and acknowledge its importance as well as research the role it plays in our understanding of how one fits, doors will open that answer many questions leading to a peaceful calm never experienced before. Okay, okay, enough talk of generalities lets have a more practical look at Ba Gua Zhang in an attempt to answer where one fits in this system, which extends from the most animalistic tendencies, to those of a sage.
