Our Approach to Trainingby Shihan WalkerJUKIDO:A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO MARTIAL TRAININGAfter 41 years of learning and sharing, I have come to the conclusion that although each martial art offers tremendous opportunities, they are founded on contained principles which box in the participants in different but certain ways. It is for this reason I have humbly undertaken to set a system in place that is as holistic as possible given my yet limited knowledge, This system I have named JUKIDO. This is not a new concept. It has been evolving since 1973 both on paper and in the energy of my mind and research. I do not claim to be adding to an ever increasing list of hybrid styles. JUKIDO is a SYSTEM using principles offered in existing martial arts attempting to place them in a singular presentation with recognition. With JUKIDO, one will be able to learn of several principles and approaches such as health and combat effectiveness at the same time without trying to learn several martial arts simultaneously. Trying to learn more than one art at the same time has always been discouraged for a variety of reasons, some selfish and some justified. It is my contention that with the current speed of information flow we must do likewise with efficient presentation of martial knowledge but most important, maintain the integrity of the principles central to each martial style. Should we bring several martial arts together? Can two approaches of two countries and cultures work together? It is my opinion that the Chinese and Japanese have much to offer complimenting each other and it is these approaches that are available in JUKIDO. REMEMBER JUKIDO IS A SYSTEM OF PRESENTATION NOT A NEW STYLE!!! Shihan Fred Walker Contact at: |
