I have been taking Tai Chi for about 5 years and I find that it helps me every time I practice. Although I am young, it has been a great stress-reliever for me. Each week having a specified hour where I can go to a quiet, calm environment to relax. When I miss one or more classes for any reason, I start to feel the stress building. Especially if I forget to practice as well. One class, or just an hour of doing Tai Chi at home is enough to undo the stress knots in my shoulders for the week. I believe that Tai Chi has helped me to stay healthy. The easy movements of the form encourage the body's natural rhythyms which helps to keep it healthier. It's nice to have something relaxing, easy to do, and very healthy to fit into my schedule every week. Shelagh Squires (16)

I came to classes for quite some time, but only went through the motions, not realizing the benefits from the moves. I'd had a number of wrist injuries over the winter and talked to you about them, asking if there were any exercises I could to to strengthen my wrists. You taught me a number of exercises that helped strengthen my wrists. I haven't had to wear a wrist brace for years. At the same time I had problems with my ankles and many sprains. I suppose all my tendons and ligaments were weak. I do still get injuries from time to time, but find the healing time is not so lengthy. As I'm very active with my dogs, I am very gratefull not to have sore joint. I realize it (Tai Chi) not only helped my wrists, but my ankles, and I don't get the tightening of the shoulder that I used to get. It has strengthened the joints, cartilage, tendons and ligaments. Mentally, I have learned to relax. I have also met some very special people in the Tai Chi class. Gladys Kinsman

...Tai Chi has reintroduced me to my body. I am much more aware of breathing, muscle control, leverage, flexibility, balance and energy. I have a long way to go in mastering all aspects of Tai Chi, but every step along the way is fulfilling. Tai Chi is entirely portable. I take it to campgrounds, beaches, docks, yards and cliff sides. I particularly enjoy it as a gateway to meditation. In my busy life, Tai Chi is one of my sacred few activities that help me slow down and relax. I even apply Tai Chi to such common actions as opening heavy doors and to sports like squash and tennis. ...I still suffer from some ailments that are by-products of stress, but I can confidently assert that Tai Chi has helped me manage them rather than be overcome...
